Collection: Tokoname ware

Tokoname ware is pottery made in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. It was Japan's largest pottery production area in the Middle Ages, and red clay teawares have been made there since the end of the Edo period (around 1858 AD).

The Tokoname region, which was at the bottom of a lake called Lake Tokai millions of years ago, has fine, high-quality clay such as red clay and black clay that is suitable for teapots.

Tokoname is home to the techniques necessary for making teapots, such as advanced molding techniques and the technique of fitting the lid and body of the teapot together without any gaps, known as "rubbing." It is Japan's largest teapot and teaware production area.
