Straw stripe sencha cup

¥2,750
This is a straw stripe sencha cup from Sekiun Kiln.

It is called ``straw stripe'' because the vertical lines look like rows of straw. It is a simple pattern painted with three colored lines of red, green, and blue on a soft milky white color.

Straw stripe is a traditional pattern that has been produced in Seto, Aichi Prefecture since the late Edo period (around 1800). Even today, it is often seen in Seto ware and Mino ware. In Seto and Mino, thick lines and thin lines are often drawn alternately, and the color of the lines varies depending on the kiln.

This sencha cup has a slightly curved spout, making it the perfect angle for drinking tea. It is made using a potter's wheel, and the surface is scraped and shaped. The scratch marks on the bottom are beautiful. Only the bottom is unglazed, and the feel of the clay feels good in your hand.

The thin lines of the straw stripe, interpreted in the Kyoto style, and the small, neat shape combine to create a sencha cup with a sophisticated atmosphere. These are handmade vessels that allow you to feel the aesthetic sense of Kyoto.
